Insuring your central heating system is a must, but there is a variety of options available to the buyer, which cater to different aspects of insurance. From just the basic cover of the central heating system, to a full house cover that will ensure peace of mind on not only your system of heating in the household, but a host of other home issues as well.
With so many different types of central heating insurance on offer it's difficult to know which one is right for you, every provider offers different levels of cover based on the type of plan taken out.
With this in mind it's important to compare plans carefully as one providers defintion of central heating cover maybe very different to the next. Boiler-Insurance.com provide a handy guide for comparing plans on offer.
Your boiler or central heating system is a vital part of your home and if anything goes wrong it is wise to have a reliable insurance policy. There are many companies offering different types of central heating insurance, some more broader than others, and some will offer the chance to pay a basic fee and add on charges for any extra areas you wish to be covered. The cheaper covers may seem tempting, but may not cover even the most basic of needs, such as out-of-hours repairs, so it is wise to thoroughly research any policy before purchase.
In general, the types of central heating insurance include:
Heating Cover or Heating Insurance
This type of cover will ensure that all your hot water and heating systems in the insured household will be covered all year round - be aware that some Home Emergency Insurance will not cover heating in the summer, due to it not being deemed as a home emergency. This does not cover any other home emergencies, and may not be liable to pay out over certain damages incurred to property, due to damaged or malfunctioning heating systems, so it is wise to thoroughly research the supplier of the insurance to be aware of what is or not covered, as the range will vary.
Home Emergency Cover
A Home Emergency type of cover will span not just the hot water and heating systems in the insured household (but only in the colder months as lack of central heating in the summer is not considered by the insurers in many cases to be a home emergency), but also any damages to other aspects of the household insured, such as damage to the plumbing and electrics, windows broken, misplaced keys, flooding damage and more.
Generally, most breakdowns of the central heating system in a household occur when the central heating systems are switched on, for the first time in months, at the end of the summer, which is often quite preventable. By making sure that you switch on your central heating for a short period of time each month during the summer, only for around ten minutes or so, you can help stop your central heating system from seizing up from lack of use, and keep the system in order. The heat pump in a central heating system is often a major issue, with it prone to becoming clogged over the summer due to lack of movement and use. However, the ten minute run of the heating system each and every month when not regularly in use, can prevent this.
