About EDF Energy

EDF Energy was launched in 2003 and is now one of the UK’s largest energy companies.

The EDF Group is one of Europe’s biggest energy providers and prides itself on respect for the environment, individuals and excellent performance.

It generates around one fifth of the UK’s electricity and has a staff of 15,000 people. Gas and electricity is supplied to an estimated 5.5 million residential and business customers across the country.

EDF Energy is divided into three branches:

Existing Nuclear – Operates eight nuclear power stations in the UK with a combined capacity of almost 9,000 megawatts.

Nuclear New Build – Delivers a new generation of nuclear plants in line with EDF’s global programme of producing safe, affordable, reliable, low-carbon production of electricity in the UK.

Energy Sourcing and Customer Supply – This division runs power stations and wind farms and buys and sells power to meet future generation and customer needs.

EDF Energy was born out of a collaboration of three energy companies ─ SEEBoard, London Energy and SWEB. The EDF Energy brand is now involved in some of the UK’s most important projects and developments.
