Ecogen Dual Energy System generates both heat and electricity for your home
The British Gas Ecogen boiler is the first combined heat and power (CHP) system for domestic households. It produces heat for your central heating and hot water whilst also generating electricity that can be exported back to the national grid.
How it works
The Ecogen boiler produces heating and hot water in much the same was as traditional condensing boilers, in addition electricity is generated by an integral Stirling engine, a proven technology dating back many years.
The electricity produced can be used in your own home. For maximum savings you could run energy hungry appliances such as a tumble dryer whilst the boiler is heating and generating electricity.
The Ecogen is the only MCS certified boiler which means you can benefit from the feed-in tariff. The tariff pays you a fixed sum for every kWh of power the Ecogen produces via the Generation Tariff and in addition, a lower figure for every kWh which is unused and sold back to the grid via the Export Tariff.
