A new scheme has been launched to encourage households in London to become more energy efficient as part of an incentive to reduce CO2 emissions and help residents to reduce their energy bills.
The RE: NEW scheme is being targeted at residents living in 32 boroughs. Through the programme, hundreds of thousands of homes will be entitled to free energy efficiency advice, with the ambitious incentive giving households the opportunity to implement energy saving improvements, ranging from low energy light bulbs and draught-proofing, to water efficient shower heads and energy display monitors.
Residents wishing to take part in the scheme will initially receive a free home visit from an energy efficient advisor, who will complete an energy survey to ensure participants are given the most appropriate advice when it comes to water and energy efficiency measures.
Through the RE: NEW scheme, households on low incomes may be able to benefit from other energy efficiency improvements, such as free cavity wall insulation and loft insulation, while others may be entitled to receive subsidies towards the cost of the work.
Boris Johnson, the mayor of London has said the scheme to reduce energy use represents the single biggest low carbon investment opportunity for the city.
RE:NEW is a partnership between the London Development Agency (LDA), Greater London Authority (GLA), London Councils, the Energy Saving Trust and the 32 London boroughs.
