New voucher values have been announced for homeowners installing renewable heating products as part of the Renewable Heat Premium Payment scheme.
The Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) has made more money available as the Government ramps up its energy efficiency drive to encourage homeowners to make the switch to renewable forms of heating with its Renewable Heat Premium Payment (RHPP) scheme. The Renewable Heat Incentive forerunner will give more homeowners the opportunity to cut their carbon emissions and energy bills through the installation of heat pumps, biomass boilers and solar thermal panels.
With even more cash available to put towards green heating products there’s never been a better time to invest in renewable heating. A voucher to the value of £2,300 is on offer for a ground source heat pump, whilst air source heat pumps are eligible for a one-off voucher payment of £1,300 worth. Anyone installing a biomass heating system can apply for £2,000 worth of funding, with solar thermal panels achieving £600.
Introduced to help homeowners living in off grid properties swap their traditional heating methods for a more energy efficient heating source, the RHPP arrived on the scene in July 2011 and to date the initiative has helped more than 10,000 homeowners. Initially set to close at the end of March 2013, the second phase of the RHPP was introduced with the scheme extended to run until 31 March 2014.
“Over 10,000 householders have already taken advantage of money off renewable heating kit and we want to see even more consumers stepping up to the plate and getting on board,” commented Energy and Climate Change minister Greg Barker.
The vouchers are only available for a limited time, but the Government hopes that by increasing the RHPP voucher values it will give a much needed boost to the country’s growing green sector. Applicants need to be aware that to apply for the new voucher values a Green Deal assessment of your property will need to have been carried out before vouchers can be redeemed. The Green Deal assessment provides homeowners with advice about which type of renewable heating product would best suit their needs. Green Deal assessments carry a fee, and the new voucher values are designed to reflect that.
